The Central Board of Direct Taxes, the apex body of I-T department, has issued orders attaching 2006 batch IRS officer Yogendra Mittal, a Deputy Commissioner-rank officer, as an Officer on Special Duty (OSD) in the office of Chief Commissioner (Income Tax) Delhi, official sources said.

Mittal was working as an OSD in the Tax Planning and Legislation division of the CBDT, under the Department of Revenue.

CBDT has also ordered an inquiry against him, they said.

"A departmental inquiry against him will be conducted by a Chief Commissioner rank official and it will submit a report to the CBDT soon. He may later be suspended too," a senior official said.

CBI had searched the residential premises of Mittal at Kaushambi, Ghaziabad as well as his office yesterday.

The officer was booked for criminal conspiracy and under Prevention of Corruption Act. It was alleged that the officer led searches against Stock Guru with the intention of extracting illegal gratification, CBI had said.

Mittal had conducted search operations at various locations in connection with Stock Guru scam during January 2011 but they were allegedly not genuine.

The conspirators of Stock Guru scam -- Ulhas Prabhakar Khaire and his wife Raksha -- were arrested by Delhi Police's Economic Offences Wing in November last year, nearly 22 months after dubious searches carried out by the I-T officer, CBI sources had said.
