Stolen medicines worth Rs 50 lakh recovered, one arrested

One person has been arrested and stolen medicines worth Rs 50 lakh recovered from a truck here in Babri area, police said today.

The incident took place last night when Ratan Lal who worked as a helper to truck driver, Yogendra, escaped with the truck loaded with Ayurvedic medicines worth Rs 50 lakh from Muzaffarnagar area, Superintendent of Police (SP) Shamli Vijay Bhushan said.

The driver had parked the truck, which was on its way to Gorakhpur from Patanjali Ashram in Haridwar, to have dinner when Ratan made away with it, Bhushan said.

Police intercepted the vehicle on the highway last night and arrested Lal who was going to Karnal to sell the medicines, he said.
 

The accused has confessed to the theft, the SP said, adding, a case has been registered against him.
