Dubbing the stone pelting at Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy as "planned move" by CPI-M, Union Minister of State for Home Mullappally Ramachandran today said it was done with an eye on Lok Sabha elections.

"It was a planned move by the CPI-M to create martyrs with an eye on the coming Parliament election," he told reporters while referring to the incident that happened during a protest by opposition LDF in Kannur on Sunday.

"The incident took place in the presence of CPI(M) leaders, which showed that it was a planned one," Ramachandran said.

"The CPI(M) state leadership is in the grip of a few leaders with criminal background. It is because of that such things are being repeated," he alleged.

The Kerala government had ordered a comprehensive probe by a top police official into the attack on Chandy and it would bring out those responsible behind it, he said.

On the allegation that the incident happened due to security lapse, Ramachandran said, "I also heard the allegation. It should also be inquired and if any lapse had occurred, stringent action should be taken".

To a query on the presence of Maoists in the state, he said "there is no serious presence of naxalites in the state. But, they are trying to spread root and some materialistic organisations are extending support", he said.

"The maoists are not getting any help from the people", he said.
