Bharatiya Bhasha Suraksha Manch (BBSM), a group propagating mother-tongue as the medium of instruction (MoI) in elementary education, today warned that it would launch a campaign against Goa government if it did not stop giving grants to English medium schools in the state.

BBSM leaders, after holding a marathon meeting in the city, told reporters that the campaign against the government would be held ahead of Goa Legislative Assembly polls due in 2017, so that the ruling BJP-led dispensation stands "exposed".

"If the government does not withdraw the grants given to English medium schools, a campaign will be launched," BBSM leader of the Manch Arvind Bhatikar warned.

A series of meetings are planned across the state to galvanise the force on the issue. BJP-led government has betrayed the people on the issue of MoI, he alleged.

"Goa government is allotting grants to 135 schools which teach in English language," he said, adding, it should discontinue grants for such schools.

Alleging that the party had backstabbed Goans, another BBSM leader Subhash Velingkar said awareness meetings would be held across the state in February and March this year.

"Pamphlets would be distributed to people listing out what BJP promised before 2012 polls and what they have actually done," Velingkar added.
