"According to the new draft bill, the government will not be allowed to acquire land for private purposes and for any acquisition, approval of at least 80 per cent affected farmers will be mandatory," national in-charge of BJP Kisan Morcha Satya Pal Malik told reporters today.

"This will be in the interests of the farmers and help them to get a better deal," Malik said.

He said acquisition process should ensure satisfactory compensation to the farmers and their rehabilitation.

He alleged that in some cases, the government was acquiring farmers' lands at less prices and selling them at exorbitant rates to private users.

The BJP leader claimed that productivity was higher in agricultural research institutes than in farms, which showed that the benefits of research were not reaching farmers.
