Odisha Police today said the Centre's decision to stop funding police modernisation in the state will affect infrastructure development activities.

"Stopping of funds for police modernisation will certainly hit the police force. The Centre should review its decision. The state used to get Rs 127 crore per annum from different heads for development of the police," Director General of Police (DGP) Sanjeev Marik told reporters after attending a meeting presided by Chief Secretary G C Pati.

Besides Marik, state finance secretary R Balkrishnan and senior officials of the state Home department were present at the meeting.

Asked about the outcome of the meeting, Marik said "The state-level empowered committee headed by the Chief Secretary discussed all issues and the state government has assured to provide all necessary assistance for the development of police force in Odisha."

He said the meeting decided that the state government would give priority to modernisation of the police force.
