The present water-storage level in the 85 important reservoirs in the country is lower than that recorded last year but better than the average for the last 10 years.
According to an official release, the water available in the 85 important reservoirs of the country as on Oct. 9 was 118.589 BCM, which is 76 per cent of the total storage capacity of these reservoirs.
The stored water now is 89 per cent of the level in the corresponding period last year. The storage position for the current year is less than the storage position of last year but better than the average storage of last 10 years, it added.

States with lower storage than last year are Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Punjab, Rajasthan, Odisha, West Bengal, Tripura, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Karnataka and Tamil Nadu, the release added.
The states which have managed better storage than in the corresponding period last year are Jharkhand and Chhattisgarh, the release said.
