Software Technology Parks of India today invited bids for 33,530 seats entailing maximum subsidy outgo of Rs 340 crore for business process outsourcing centres in small towns and north-eastern states.
The government will provide financial support of up to Rs 1 lakh per seat under two plans -- India BPO Promotion Scheme and North East BPO Promotion Scheme.
Many BPOs in the country hire 1-3 persons per seat.

"The maximum financial support is up to Rs 1 lakh per seat. Then, there are special incentives also under the schemes. We have provisioning of up to Rs 340 crore, if all seats in the bid qualify for Rs 1 lakh financial support as well as special incentives," STPI Director General Omkar Rai told PTI.
Under the India BPO Promotion Scheme, the government aims to promote IT-enabled services footprint in small towns of the country. Under the tender, the STPI has invited interest for 30,140 seats by October 25.
It has invited bids for 3,390 seats for BPOs in the North East by October 26.
