A strategy has been prepared to make Haryana polythene-free, Urban Local Bodies Minister Kavita Jain informed the state Assembly today as she appealed fellow lawmakers to dissuade people from using such bags.

She said it is duty of public representatives to make people aware and encourage them not to use polythene as its usage has already been banned in the state since 2013.

She said as part of the strategy to make the state polythene-free, a committee has been constituted.

Jain was replying to a question raised by MLA Nagender Bhadana on the third day of monsoon session of the Assembly.

She apprised the House that more than 200 camps have been organised to generate awareness among people for not using plastic bags.

Apart from this, a sum of Rs 7.02 lakh has so far been recovered through 2,136 challans.

Jain said though there was no manufacturing unit of polythene bags in the state, yet problems were arising due to its transportation from neighbouring states like Uttar Pradesh and Delhi.
