: A two-year old boy suffered injuries when a stray dog mauled him while he was playing outside his house at Olavanna in the district on Thursday.

The child was dragged by the dog for some distance, his mother said, adding it later let him off after she and neighbours who heard his cries, chased the animal away.

"Timely intervention of neighbours saved my child. He was playing. Suddenly the dog entered the premises and attacked him. We rushed the child to the nearby hospital. He had injuries on shoulder and hands," the woman said.

Local people complained that the stray dog menace was a serious issue in the area.

Stray dog menace had been a continuing problem in Kerala and several people, particularly elders have fallen victims.

In April 2017, an 85-year old man was mauled to death by a pack of stray dogs at Thiruvilam village in Thiruvananthapuram district while a 90-year old man and a 65-year old woman had died in 2016 in separate attacks.
