Stray leopard injures two children in UP

Two children were today seriously injured in an attack by a stray leopard in Murtiha area under Katarniaghat wildlife division, a forest department official said.

Vikas (10) and Rohit (11) of Tepri Majhav village suffered serious injuries in the attack today morning, Senior Project Officer of WWF Dabir Hasan said, adding they were admitted to the district hospital.

He said that financial assistance of Rs 5,000 each has been given to the family of the injured children.

A trap has been set up to catch the stray leopard and an expert team has been called keeping in view the increasing number of such incidents, Hasan said.
 

He said that additional police force and forest staff were combing the area to ensure that the leopard does not attack any other person or the agitated villagers hurt the big cat.

This is the third such incident within a week.
