Strict action on disturbing peace: UP government

Uttar Pradesh government today said a peaceful and harmonious atmosphere should prevail in the state and strict action would be taken against those who try to disturb it.

Addressing a press conference here, Principal Secretary (Home) Devashish Pandey and Director General of Police (DGP) A K Jain appealed to the Saharanpur residents to not hold protest over petty issues and instead cooperate with police to resolve them.

They said strict action should be taken against the accused who tried to hamper peace by pelting stones and gherao of police station following the attack on five members of Tablighi Jammat on board a Delhi-Kandhla train on May 1.
 

The senior officers asked shopkeepers and malls to install CCTV cameras as many cases in Delhi and Lucknow have been solved with their help.

On improving police-public relation, they said police personnel have been asked to have visiting cards printed and distribute them among locals and institutions in the area so that they can be directly contacted.

Soon, 40,000 police personnel will be recruited in the state, the state Home Secretary said, adding, many cops have been promoted and provided with modern weapons to boost their moral.

Pandey said Rs 200 crore would be spent to repair and construct police stations and 5000 residential buildings.
