Strict security measures in view of President's Manipur visit

Security measures were beefed up in Manipur today in view of President Pranab Mukherjee's visit to the state for inaugurating the convocation of Manipur University.

Paramilitary and police forces were deployed in Manipur Capital complex here and the university campus, particularly in view of the 'boycott' of the VVIP by six major insurgent outfits who have also issued a call for a 12-hour 'general strike' today, the police said.

The President will be the chief guest at the 14th convocation of Manipur University at Kanchipur area, five kms from the capital complex.

Markets, shops and businesss establishments were closed besides cancellation of transport services by the transporters in view of the 'general strike', reports said.
