The indefinite strike called by the Agartala Exporters-Importers Association (AEIA) was lifted today following assurances by the state government and trade through the International Check Post (ICP) at the Indo-Bangla border here resumed.
Trade through the ICP was suspended from Thursday last due to the strike, but was lifted after the state minister for Industries assured the AEIA that their demands would be taken up with the Centre at the earliest, sources said.
AEIA secretary Habul Biswas said the strike was called to protest against imposition of high rate of tariff for loading and unloading by the Central Warehousing Corporation.

The multi-facility ICP was inaugurated by Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde in presence of Bangladesh Home Minister Mahiuddin Khan Alamgir on November 17 last.
The check post was built at a cost of Rs 74 crore and was the first of its kind between India and Bangladesh which has a modern terminal building for passage of people from the two countries, well equipped customs and immigration centres, high security equipment, weigh bridges, currency exchange, banks and Internet facility.
Trade between the two countries had drastically come down in the recent past due to continuous strike by opposition parties in Bangladesh, sources added.
