Strike by militant outfits disrupts normal life in Manipur

Normal life was largely affected in Manipur today due to the to the 18-hour general strike called by Co-ordination Committee, an umbrella group of five banned militant groups.

The strike, which commenced from midnight, affected functioning of business establishments, educational institutions and inter-state passenger services, official reports said.

Security personnel were deployed in large numbers at several major areas of the state capital.

No untoward incident has been reported during the period of the strike, they said.

CoRcom which includes the proscribed outfit of UNLF, RPF/PLA, PREPAK (pro) is protesting the 1949 merger of Manipur with India.
