Lakhs of state government employees today joined the nationwide strike called by ten trade union against disparities in the pay commission recommendations and non-redressal of their pending demands.

The 24-hour strike received massive support from different employees' unions and federations across the state, leader of one of the unions claimed.

Though some banks functioned normally, work in state government departments was affected.

Patients had to face difficulties in hospitals in the state capital and in the districts as well as nurses struck work.

Postal services were also crippled as employees remained on strike.

Government buses were, however, seen plying in different parts of the state.

The strike was called by trade unions against "government's apathy" towards their 12-point charter of demands including a monthly minimum wage of Rs 18,000, controlling price rise and assured minimum monthly pension of Rs 3,000.
