The central trade unions' day-long strike evoked mixed response in Uttar Pradesh today.
"The strike call given by the central unions was peaceful and no untoward incident was reported from any part of the state," IG (Law and Order) A Satish Ganesh told reporters here.
Claiming the strike to be a success in the state, All India People' Front general secretary Dinkar Kapoor said that it proves that there is resentment among labourers and workers against the BJP-led NDA government.
In Lucknow, members of trade unions took rally and held demonstration.
Transport and banking facilities were partly affected due to the day-long strike.
In Lakhimpur, banking and insurance operations affected transactions worth several crores of rupees.
The insurance and bank officials boycotted work and raised anti-establishment slogans.
Besides, protesting against the proposed motor vehicle and road safety bill, all UP roadways buses went off road, compounding the miseries of people.
The UP state employees and teachers unions also actively joined the strike demanding pay parity and improvement in service conditions.
