The employees abstained from duty in most of the offices and schools run by the government in response to the two-day strike call given by the Joint Consultative Committee (JCC) and supported by teachers, official sources said.

However, they said, the strike failed to evoke any response in the civil secretariat which along with other 'move' offices reopened in the summer capital Srinagar yesterday after six months functioning in Jammu as part of the bi-annual 'darbar move'.

JCC, a representative body of 4.5 lakh employees, is also demanding removal of pay anomalies, regularisation of services of daily wagers, ad hoc and consolidated workers engaged in various departments.

The Committee also threatened a 'secretariat gherao' on Wednesday if its demands were not met.
