The striking house surgeons of SCB Medical College and Hospital here today decided to put-off their cease-work stir for 15 days.

After a general body meeting of the House Surgeon Association, it was decided that the house surgeons would resume their work from tomorrow, association leaders said.

The meeting also decided that the decision to resume work would be reviewed based on the state government's initiative in fulfilling their demands including hike in stipend.

The decision to postpone the strike was apparently taken after the Director of Medical Education and Training (DMET), Prakash Mohapatra assured the striking doctors that at least two of their three demands would be fulfilled, they said.

Following Tuesdays scuffle between a house surgeon and relative of a patient, the house surgeons resorted to cease work stir from Wednesday morning demanding adequate security inside the hospital for their safety.

The house surgeons are also demanding enhancement of their monthly stipend and removal of the Hospital superintendent from the post in their demand list.

Earlier in the afternoon the DMET met a delegation of the striking doctors and assured them that two of their demands are genuine and the Government would take steps to fulfil them soon. Sources said, the DMET was referring to the demands of adequate security inside the campus and increasing the stipend of the house surgeons.
