Police shot and killed a man early today after he broke the windshield of their patrol car, in the latest of a string of officer-involved shootings in the Miami area, the Miami Herald reported.

The man was the second person to be shot to death by police in as many days.

Five others have been wounded in unrelated confrontations with police since Friday.

David Chiverton, a spokesman for the town of Opa-locka, said two police officers acted after the man broke their windshield with some kind of an object.

They initially tried to subdue the suspect with tasers after he refused to obey orders.

But when they were unable to control him, they opened fire, killing him, Chiverton said.

The day before, police shot and killed a man suspected of an armed robbery at a fast-food restaurant.

Five other police involved shootings have occurred since Friday, with five people wounded in those confrontations.
