The party has selected a panel of three members for each of the parliamentary constituencies and one among the three, most probably, would be fielded as candidate, Rudraraju Padma Raju, Andhra Pradesh government Whip, who had been entrusted with the task of shortlisting the panel members in 10 constituencies in Tamil Nadu, said.
Stringent norms have been issued for selecting the candidates which also include that the candidates should not have any criminal record, he told reporters here.
The party is also looking for educated candidates with a dedication to work for Congress, and also those with good track record as party functionary or voluntary also. The party would not mind fielding even a locally popular man..A philanthropist or an industrialist who had provided jobs for people, provided he had Congress affinity, he said.
Asked if "corruption factor" also would be taken into account, Raju said "sometimes corruption charges are levelled due to jealousy....We have to be careful in making assessment of such charges."
Asked if the exercise would ensure the victory of the party, he said "Our objective is field a candidate with good image..The strategy, in the long run, would definitely pay."
He said he would complete his work by first week of December and give his report to party general secretary Madhusudhan Mistry.
