In the wake of the allegation that a mathematics professor at Shantipur college was threatened at gunpoint, West Bengal Education Minister Partha Chatterjee today said strong action would be taken against the culprit irrespective of his political affiliation.

"We will not tolerate such incident. Administration will take strong action irrespective of the political affiliation of the person concerned. He will not be spared even if he belongs to our party," Chatterjee said when asked about yesterday's incident.

"I have asked for the CD (recording). If anyone of our party is spotted there, he will not be spared", he said.

A section of teachers of Shantipur College in Nadia district yesterday alleged that they were being threatened by a group of outsiders over the upcoming governing body elections in the institute.

The mathematics professor Amarjit Kundu had said he was in the staff room when suddenly a group of about 20 outsiders barged into the room, gheraoed him and ordered him not to get involved in governing body election process.

"One of them even whipped out a revolver and directed it towards my head and as some other teachers rushed into the room on hearing commotion, they left. They were not our students," he had said.

Confirming the incident, college principal Chandrima Bhattacharya said, "I have submitted a written complaint against the attackers and lodged complaint with the district SP and the district magistrate.

The college governing body election is scheduled on August 31 to elect 4 teachers and 2 non-teaching staff.
