Cardamom prices rose by 1.27 per cent to Rs 1,074 per kg in futures trade today as investors built up fresh positions amid uptick in domestic as well as export demand in the spot market.

Besides, tight stock position on fall in arrivals from major producing regions fuelled the uptrend.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, cardamom for delivery in May shot up by Rs 13.50, or 1.27 per cent, to Rs 1,074 per kg in a business turnover of just five lots.

Likewise, the spice for delivery in April contracts traded higher by Rs 10.90, or 1.05 per cent, to Rs 1,052.30 per kg in 7 lots.

Analysts said fresh positions created by participants on the back of robust domestic as well as export demand in the physical market against restricted supplies from producing belts led to the rise in cardamom futures.
