Strong demand, paucity of stocks lifts gur prices

The wholesale gur (jaggery) market revealed a firm trend by spurted Rs 100 per quintal in the national capital today after increased buying by retailers and stockists coupled with paucity of stocks.

Muzaffarnagar and Muradnagar gur markets also showed a firm trend with prices rising by up to Rs 150 per quintal on scarcity of stocks amidst pick up in seasonal demand.

Marketmen said fall in supplies due to unfavourable weather conditions at manufacturing belts and a firm trend in sugar prices, mainly influenced gur prices.

Besides, heavy buying by stockists and retailers too enthused trading sentiments, they quoted.

In Delhi, gur Chakku, Dhayya and Shakkar prices flared up by Rs 100 each to settle at Rs 3,100-3,200, Rs 3,500-3,600 and Rs 3,600-3,700 per quintal.
 

At Muradnagar, gur Pedi and Dhayya prices bounced by Rs 150 each to conclude at Rs 2,850-3,000 and Rs 3,000-3,050 instead of Rs 2,800-2,850 and Rs 2,850-2,900 per quintal.

While in Muzaffarnagar, gur Khurpa and Laddoo prices were higher by Rs 50 each to yield at Rs 2,750-2,800 and Rs 3,000-3,100 per quintal.

Gur Raskat prices also soared by Rs 100 also closed higher at Rs 2,600-2,650 on fresh buying by beer makers.

Following are today's rates (in Rs per quintal):

Gur chakku Rs 3,100-3,200, pedi Rs 3,200-3,300, dhayya Rs 3,500-3,600 and shakkar Rs 3,600-3,700.

Muzaffarnagar: Rasket Rs 2,600-2,650, chakku Rs 2,800-3,000, khurpa Rs 2,750-2,800 and Ladoo Rs 3,000-3,100.

Muradnagar: Pedi Rs 2,850-3,000 and dhayya Rs 3,000-3,050.
