Strong winds, heavy rains lash parts of Punjab, Haryana

Strong winds accompanied by heavy rains lashed some parts of Punjab and Haryana, including Chandigarh.

Chandigarh was pounded by heavy rains (46.6 mm) last night, a MeT department official said.

The maximum temperature dropped several notches at many places in the states as cool breeze provided respite to the people from sultry weather conditions.

Chandigarh recorded a maximum temperature of 30.6 degrees Celsius, two notches below normal.

Among other places, Ambala recorded a maximum of 30.1 degrees, Hisar 33.5 degrees, Karnal 29.6 degrees, Amritsar 31.8 degrees, Ludhiana 30.3 degrees and Patiala 30.9 degrees Celsius, the official said.

In Punjab, Mohali received 40 mm of rain, Amritsar 25.4 mm, Gurdaspur received 15.2 mm, Anandpur Sahib 7 mm while Ropar got 15 mm of rain.
 

In Haryana, Panchkula received 14 mm of rainfall, Yamunanagar 15 mm, Ambala 12.3 mm and Naraingarh witnessed 8 mm.
