Student arrested, denied bail for 'defamatory' post

A college student has been arrested and sent to judicial custody for allegedly posting a defamatory message against a community on a social networking site in Khatauli town here.

The accused, identified as Gaurav, an M.A. Student, was arrested yesterday.

Chief Judicial Magistrate Narendra Kumar today rejected his bail plea, saying that "there is no case for bail" and sent him to judicial custody till May 28.

Police on May 12 had registered a case against unknown persons under section 295 (Deliberate and malicious acts, intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting its religion or religious beliefs) of the IPC, for allegedly sending a defamatory messsage against a community on WhatsApp, following a protest by members of the community.
