A Delhi court today dismissed the bail application for one of the accused arrested along with five others for allegedly using electronic devices for writing answers in the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) 2013 Combined Graduate Level Examination.
Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Lokesh Kumar Sharma denied bail to accused Virender Singh, saying the "allegations against him are very serious in nature".
Virender moved his bail plea after he was produced before the court on expiry of his 10 days of police remand.
The court sent all the six arrested accused--Hemant Maan, Sunil Kumar, Arvind Kumar, Virender, Yogender and Shailender--to judicial custody till October 23, after the police did not seek their further remand.
The counsel for Virender told the court that he had neither induced anyone by any means nor cheated anyone.
He also said that the aggrieved party (SSC) is also not the complainant in the case.
The investigating officer opposed Virender's bail, saying he was arrested red handed from Allahabad exam centre while receiving answers from the other side over his mobile phone.
The court agreed to the probe agency's submssion and said that the advocate's contentions were contradictory in nature and the plea taken by him was not convincing at this stage.
"I am not inclined to grant bail at this stage. The allegations are serious in nature. Large number of accused are at large...," the court said.
The accused were arrested by the police while they were appearing in the SSC examination held on September 29 and were caught allegedly using the "latest communication devices" during writing the papers. They were in touch with persons feeding them the answers, the police said.
