Student dies of snake bite in school hostel

An eighth standard student of a tribal boarding school died of snake bite in the school hostel at Kusumasala in Odisha's Mayurbhanj district, police said here today.

The deceased identified as Baburam Murmu and two of his class mates Surendra Murmu and Anam Murmu were bitten by a poisonous snake while sleeping on the floor in the school hostel in the intervening night today, sub-divisional police officer (SDPO), Baripada, Suresh Kumar Jena said.

The trio was taken to the hospital in the morning where Baburam died while Surendra was shifted to SCB Medical College Hospital at Cuttack after his condition deteriorated.
 

Another student Anam was being treated at the district headquarters hospital here, he said.

The boarding school is run by state tribal welfare department for tribal tribal students though other students also study in the institute.
