An engineering student's zeal to take selfies atop a stationary goods wagon today ended in tragedy when he landed in hospital with burn injuries.

Henry Jones, a student of Gitam University, suffered electric shocks when he tried to click selfies (self- portraits) atop the stationary goods wagon at Arakuvalley Railway Station near here, the Government Railway Police (GRP) officials said.

Jones was in Arakuvalley on a joy trip and climbed on the roof of the wagon to take selfies from his mobile camera. While he was trying to click selfies, he accidentally came in contact with the overhead electric traction wires, they said.

"Jones suffered electric shocks and was thrown off the wagon and fell down. He suffered more than 50 per cent burns," said GRP Inspector K Srinivasa Rao.

The student was admitted to the city-based KG Hospital, where his condition is said to be stable.
