The 22-year-old youth then inflicted cut injuries on himself and surrendered to police.
The 16-year-old girl was studying at a Government Higher Secondary School near here. She had left her house along with the young man recently but her parents managed to locate her and persuaded her to return.
Angered by her sudden indifference to him besides refusing to marry him, saying she would listen only to her parents, the man called her to a nearby field and slit her throat, killing her on the spot.
Police arrested him.
