Taking a serious view of the alleged suicide of an engineering student in a college hostel in Thrissur district, Kerala state Human Rights Commission today sought a report on the matter.

Commission Member K Mohankumar directed the Thrissur District Superintendent of Police, Principal of the private Nehru College of Engineering at Pambady and its Registrar to file reports within two weeks, officials said.

18-year old Jishnu, a computer science student, was found hanging in the hostel bathroom last week.

Students alleged that authorities had harassed him after he was caught for 'copying' in an examination.

A protest march taken out by the students yesterday turned violent as a section of them went on a rampage in the college campus, damaging properties.
