West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee today announced that all student units in colleges and universities will get grants from the state government for performing cultural activities.
"All student units will get grants from the state's youth services department for various cultural activities and programmes such as Teacher's Day celebrations," Banerjee today announced at a rally of the party's student unit here.
"My foundation in politics was through student politics. Those who emerge from student activism can never become thieves, they work for people. You can either work for a company or create an institution that creates jobs for lakhs for people," she said.

The TMC supremo asked the students to maintain discipline and work for nation-building and urged them to take proactive roles in mass awareness about various schemes and programmes of the government.
She announced that the Youth Welfare Department of the government would also look after students' welfare from now.
Banerjee today criticised a section of opposition leaders for creating hurdles in recruitment of teachers.
"The Government is ready to initiate teachers' appointment to 65,000 vacant positions. Few politicians filed cases against teachers' recruitment and are now demanding why teachers are not getting jobs. Opposition only exists in TV studios. If the media stops covering their events, they will give up protests," she said.
State Education minister and TMC leader Partha Chatterjee today announced elections to the students' units of college and universities would be held in November after the Pujas.
