Canada has introduced a new system called Express Entry from early this year and students can make use of this for quicker entry to Canada, a senior diplomat said today.
This was a new electronic system to manage applications for permanent residence under certain economic immigration program, Sidney Frank, Canada's Consul General in Bengaluru, said during an interaction with the students of PSG College of Technology.
"Canada has a good number of reputed educational institutions and has expertise in almost all fields."
"So students can make use of the opportunities. Working after graduation is possible and it is also easy to immigrate. The tuition fees are also less compared to other countries", Frank said.
Speaking about India- Canada relations, Frank said that both the countries always have a longstanding relationship and there are around 1.2 million Indian origin settled in Canada. They contribute a lot in terms of economic growth, culture and there are people even in the parliament and ministers of state, he said, adding that the international trade in 2014 was roughly about 6.3 billion dollars and we are working hard on increasing it.
"India has become a power house for innovation and research and we see that India is doing a lot to improve the economy. The smart cities concept, Make in India and skills development are the most welcoming aspects," Frank said.
Lot of MoUs were signed between India and Canada during the prime minister Narendra Modi's visit to Canada, as the nation has expertise of the companies, many of them already in projects like ports, airports, engineering services, planning, ICT (for smart cities), he said.
Canada has around 400 Canadian Institutes and is already in collaboration with Indian institutions and around 30 MoUs signed with National Skills Development Council, a release from the College, quoting Frank said.
"We are also working with Indian institutions for skill development and higher studies too," he said, adding that around 40,000 students came to study in Canada in 2014.
