Students of a government school today blocked the Srinagar-Baramulla national highway near here, alleging that their principal had misbehaved with a girl student and demanded action against him.

The students boycotted the classes and blocked the highway near HMT crossing this morning to protest the alleged misbehaviour of the principal with a 12th class student during a school outing to Pahalgam tourist resort on Saturday, police said.

"We have taken cognisance of the case and are investigating," a police officer said.

The protest by the students resulted in massive traffic jam on the highway connecting north Kashmir districts of Baramulla, Bandipora and Kupwara with Srinagar for over six hours.

Senior police officers persuaded the students to disperse assuring a fair probe into the matter, police said.
