Students demand Principal's arrest over harassment of colg

Students of a government polytechnic college here staged protest demanding suspension and arrest of the principal and four other staff who are accused of harassing girl students during inspection of the college's girls hostel, police said.

Students staying at the hostel of Rajkiya Polytechnic College in Nawabganj area have accused principal F R Khan, stenographer C K Upadhyay and three others of harassing them during an inspection of the hostel on the night of May 8, Swaroop Nagar Circle Officer Aatish Kumar Singh said.

Director Technical Education O P Verma constituted a three-member-committee comprising of two female teachers and one male teacher to examine the case and asked them to submit a report within three days.
 

The students have been staging protest everyday since the incident. Police force have been been deployed at the campus to avoid any untoward incident, Singh said.

Earlier based on the girls' complaint, a case was registered against five accused including the principal under sections 354 (Assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) and 511 (Punishment for attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life or other imprisonment) of the IPC.

According to police no arrest has been made so far, police said, adding, the principal and the other accused are absconding.
