At least three students were injured while six others swooned during a scuffle between students of a private college and police, who prevented them from barging into the district collectorate here.

The students, who appealed to the government to intervene or take over the college in Kovaipudur, had come to the collectorate to submit a memorandum seeking basic amenities in the college, police said.

As police refused to allow all the students into the premises, they suddenly grew agitated and tried to surge inside the office of collector Archana Patnaik, they said.

In the melee, three male students were injured and six students, including four girls, swooned, due to heat, they added.

The students in their memorandum, a copy of which was handed over to press, mentioned that they have held several agitations.

Two students had even attempted to jump off the college building recently, seeking basic faclities like toilets and drinking water.

Unhygienic toilets cause hardship to girl students and their requests for better facilities have only fallen on deaf ears, the students alleged.

They said that majority of the pupils belonged to BC, MBC, SC and ST and minority community.

The students sought immediate intervention of the collector to set things right, considering the future of more than 350 students.
