Press Trust of India Coimbatore
The Students Movement Against Methane Project today said it would continue the agitatation till the Centre totally shelved the project proposed in Cauvery delta districts.

It was evident that the Centre had only cancelled the contract with the Great Eastern Energy Corporation, due to technicalities like non-submission of bank guarantee and Financial Performance Guarantee and not shelved the entire project, Jegan and Tamizhini, the coordinators of the Movement, said in a release here.

There was all the possibility that the contract can be given to some other private agencies, who fulfilled the necessary requirements or to ONGC, in future, they said.

The announcement appeared to be a ploy to prevent the farmers, students and other like minded people from further agitation, the release said.

Considering this, the movement will continue their opposition to the project and agitate till it was shelved, they said.
