A group of students from Shambhu Dayal Degree College today protested here against "unauthorised" construction of shops in the college premises.

A congregation of students from the degree college raised slogans against the college management to stop the construction of shops in the sports ground of their college.

The students also forced the shopkeepers on GT Road here, adjoining the college premises, to down their shutters in support of their agitation.

According to student leader Pradeep Kasana, who led the agitation, college management is bent upon constructing a shopping complex to "mint money for their own benefits."

He accused the management of selling several acres of land which was donated by Lala Shambhu Dayal for student hostel, college, and sports ground illegally.

The student leader further alleged that grant sanctioned by UGC for the degree college has been wrongfully diverted to Shambhu Dayal Global School in Gandhi Nagar here.

A memorandum to stop the illegal construction, has already been handed over to the District Magistrate of Ghaziabad, he said.

Kasana warned the management that if the construction of illegal shops is not stopped immediately, the students will continue the agitation aggressively.
