Tension prevailed at a private college in Pollachi near here today with students going on the rampage ransacking the college, as news spread that three female students were injured in alleged police action during a protest demanding issuance of marksheets.
Hundreds of students, along with some members of Students Federation of India, today took out a procession to the Sub-Collector office and indulged in picketing on the main road, which was prevented by police, they said.
In the melee, three girl students sustained injuries on their legs, police said, adding, 300 students were taken into custody.

On receiving information that the girls were injured, some students went on a rampage inside the college premises, pelting stones and breaking windowpanes, police added.
However, the situation was under control now, police added.
About 250 students of NGM College of Arts and Science in Pollachi had observed dharna in the campus yesterday, demanding issuance of marksheets, which was reportedly delayed due to internal problems between the heads of Physics and Chemistry departments and the management of the institution, over authorisation to issue them to UG students, police said.
The students had submitted a memorandum to the Sub-Collector seeking his intervention in the matter.
Students claimed that marksheets have not been issued for the past two years.
