Following protests over quality of food and rise in food prices at the canteen of Jamia Millia Islamia, the varsity has decided to set up monitoring committees for all its canteens.

"The university has decided to constitute a monitoring committee for canteens comprising faculty members and students to monitor the quality of food served on regular basis.

"Those who are desirous of being a part of the committee have been asked to submit their names to Dean of students welfare," the varsity said in a statement.

A group of university students had staged a protest last week against the recent increase in rates of food items at the varsity's central canteen and demanded that the hike be rolled back.

According to the students, the canteen contractor has been increasing prices at frequent intervals without improving quality of food.

The authorities at Jamia, however, denied this saying that food prices are decided by them and no individual can decrease or increase the price of any food item served the canteen.
