Student protesters are planning to end their 24-day occupation of Taiwan's Parliament.
They have been protesting a trade pact with China that they fear will imperil the island's autonomy, and agreed to come out only after assurances that the deal would undergo stricter legislative review.
The trade deal would allow Chinese and Taiwanese service companies, including banking, telecommunication and transportation firms, to operate in each other's territory.
Members of the protest movement set up a stage today outside Parliament for speeches and other events surrounding the planned departure of students from the building later in the evening.
Protesters agreed to end the occupation after the parliamentary speaker promised Sunday to enact legislation requiring more public consultation on trade deals before the pact is ratified.
