Students union polls in Hry: Education Minister calls meeting

The four-member committee formed to conduct students' union elections in the state's varsities and colleges would meet here on November 15, Haryana Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma said today, following protests in Rohtak demanding the polls at the earliest.

The minister said that the committee's report will be reviewed in the meeting.

The vice-chancellor of Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology (GJUST), Tankeshwar Kumar, is the chairman of the committee and vice-chancellors of the Maharshi Dayanand University and and the Indira Gandhi University, Bijender Kumar Punia and Madan Lal respectively are its member secretaries, he said.

On the protests at the Maharishi Dayanand University in Rohtak, Sharma urged students not to waste time.
 

The students ended their stir after the minister's assurance in the matter.

Recently, members of the Indian National Students Organisation (INSO), the students' wing of the Indian National Lok Dal (INLD), had locked the main gates of the Haryana Agricultural University and the GUST, demanding students' union elections in the state.
