The government should set up a strong mechanism for standard setting, financing, monitoring and evaluation while promoting greater competitiveness and accountability by private training providers, a report said.

According to Youth4work.Com, a portal for student community which conducted the study, also said that a well- designed skills training programme helps unemployed youth to test new skills, upgrade existing skills and find satisfactory employment.

"In India, youth if not properly skilled will lack employment. Specially for rural India, we aid training centers to connect with companies to get job opportunities for skilled people," it said.

There are a number of degree and diploma holders who pass out every year but most of them are unemployable because they lack the skills, manufacturing and services industries look for, it added.

"A more rigorous system needs to be well implemented where the government plays a key role in policy development, standards setting, financing and monitoring and evaluation, while promoting greater competitiveness and accountability by private training and testing providers," it said.

Fertiliser co-operative major IFFCO has tied up with Youth4work to help youth in rural areas improve skills for better employability.
