A Delhi Police sub-inspector was killed while two policemen were seriously injured when a speeding container truck broke barricades and rammed into their PCR van late last night in east Delhi's Mayur Vihar area.

The deceased has been identified as 59-year-old sub-inspector Subedar Khan.

The accident took place around 1.00 AM when sub-inspector Subedar Khan along with assistant sub-inspector Girdhari Lal (50) and constable Aqeel khan (46) were at PCR duty at Chilla check post.

Khan was standing behind the barricades while Girdhari Lal and Aqeel Khan were sitting inside the PCR vehicle.

"A container truck which was heading to Noida from Delhi suddenly rammed into the barricade, dragged it and then crashed into the PCR van. Subedar Khan was crushed between the truck and the police vehicle while his other two colleagues were also injured," said a senior police official.

The truck was being driven at such a high speed that it dragged the barricade and the gypsy to a few meters and climbed on the footpath before coming to a standstill. The driver and the helper fled leaving the truck behind.

Subedar Khan was rushed to LBS Hospital from where he was referred to Max Hospital where doctors declared him brought dead. He was a resident of Shashi Garden area in Dilshad Garden, police said.

A manhunt has been launched to nab the errant driver of the truck after a case was registered in this connection.
