Special CBI Judge Rajiv Mehra sentenced Sub-Post Master Hira Lal Dua Shastri Nagar Post Office, holding him guilty of abusing his official position and taking bribe in violation of the Prevention of Corruption Act.
The court also imposed a fine of Rs 3,000 on Dua, who was caught red-handed while accepting a bribe of Rs 4,000 from the post office agent.
It, however, suspended his sentence and granted bail to him for a month to enable him go in appeal against his conviction and sentencing.
"There remains no shadow of doubt that accused made a demand of the bribe and accepted the same to allow the complainant to work smoothly and peacefully," it had said.
The case was registered by the CBI on June 14, 2007 on the complaint of post office agent Krishna Goel, who had managed to open 600 saving bank account with the post office on behalf of her clients. In her complaint, she had alleged that Geeta Colony resident Dua used to demand money from her whenever she went there to deposit her clients' money.

The CBI told the court that Goel worked as an agent and used to get commission from the government for collecting and depositing money from her clients in the post office.
It said whenever she approached post office to deposit her clients' money, Dua would demand a bribe at the rate of Rs 3000 a month to let her function smoothly.
She approached the CBI which laid a trap and caught Dua red-handed accepting Rs 4000 from her as bribe in his office on June 14, 2007.
Dua, in his defence, had said he was falsely implicated in the case and the money recovered from him was given by the complaint to her for depositing in her two accounts.
