'Subha Yatra-2015' to check road accidents in Kerala

Kerala governmet today announced a new progrmme 'Subha Yatra-2015' to check road accidents by strictly implementing traffic rules in the wake of increase in the of number of human casualties in road mishaps.

Giving details of the programme to be implemented from January 1 next year, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala said road accident claims nearly 4000 lives and cause injury 35,000 person every year in the state.

"The number is growing and majority of the victim were in the age group of 22 to 45 years. The aim of the programme was to make the state a zero accident one", he said.
 

State incure a financial loss of Rs 500 crore due to road accidents, he pointed out.

Stern action would be taken aginst those who violate traffic rule. Modern equipments like speed radars would be used to monitor traffic, he said.

The rules on helmet for two-wheeler drivers would be made more strict.
