Subhash Kapoor of 'Phas Gaye Re Obama' fame is replacing Rajkumar Hirani as the director of the third 'Munnabhai' film, tentatively titled 'Munnabhai Chale Dilli'.

"Yes it is true I would be directing the third part of 'Munnabhai' series. I am quite excited. I am looking forward to it," Subhash told PTI.

The first two films of the series - 'Munnabhai MBBS' (2003) and 'Lage Raho Munnabhai' (2006), both directed by Rajkumar Hirani, were hit at the box office.

Producer Vidhu Vinod Chopra, Hirani and writer Abhijat Joshi felt that Subhash was perfect to take the franchise forward. Chopra and Hirani met him and worked out on their schedule for the movie.

"After seeing Subhash's work and discussing his thoughts and ideas, Raju, Abhijat and I collectively felt that we have, after a long search, found an individual with the right sensibility and approach to work with us in taking forward the Munna Bhai franchise. I am pleased to welcome Subhash Kapoor into the Vinod Chopra Films family as the director of the next Munna Bhai film," Chopra said in a statement.

Subhash's next film is 'Jolly LLB', a comedy based on Indian court system, starring Boman Irani and Arshad Warsi. Both the actors also play important roles in 'Munnabhai'.

'Munnabhai' series revolves around a lovable goon, played by Sanjay Dutt. Warsi is Munnabhai's sidekick Circuit while Irani plays the troublemaker.
