The National Green Tribunal today directed Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) and Delhi Pollution Control Committe (DPCC) to take water samples from drains joining Yamuna at different stretches in NCR, Delhi.
A bench headed by Justice Swatanter Kumar directed CPCB, DPCC, a representative of Environment Ministry and a representative of Delhi Jal Board to take water samples of drains at ten different points of the 22km stretch flowing in NCR, Delhi and prepare a data within one week.
The Tribunal reserved its judgement after both sides concluded their arguments and fixed the case for next hearing on December 15.

"The samples should be collected particularly from the areas adjoining flood plains where agricultural activity is being carried on the river bed. A separate data in that behalf would be indicated in this report.
"We make it clear that this would be considered as baseline for the purpose of determining the improvement or restoration of the water quality of Yamuna in future," the bench said.
NGT was hearing a plea by Manoj Mishra seeking ban on dumping of rubble into Yamuna and ensuring cleaning up of the river.
The bench had earlier constituted a committee comprising of Directors of IIT, Roorkee and Delhi to look into dumping of waste and debris into the Yamuna and the covering and encroachments of storm water drains (SWDs).
