BJP's veteran leader Subramanian Swamy today met former Sri Lankan president Mahinda Rajapaksa.
Swamy visited Rajapaksa's ancestral home at Madamulana to call on the former Sri Lankan leader, Rajapaksa's office said. He invited Rajapaksa for an event in New Delhi.
"It was a hugely enjoyable trip to South Sri Lanka to meet Fmr SL President Sri Mahinda Rajapaksa and his family. He is a man to be admired for his decisiveness to wipe out the LTTE terror and incidentally also soothen India's hurt feelings due to Rajiv's (Gandhi) assassination by the LTTE," Swamy tweeted.
He also paid last respects to Rajapaksa's younger brother Chandra Rajapaksa who passed away yesterday.
In Colombo today, he had a 'chance meeting' with former Maldivian president Mohamed Nasheed, who is currently on exile in the country.
"He (Nasheed) is apprehensive of gross rigging in their forthcoming election. India cannot allow that as a neighbour and also since current usurper President (Abdulla) Yamin has humiliated Indians recently. We need an action plan," Swamy tweeted.
Nasheed is a popular leader in The Maldives, having been at the forefront of a pro-democracy campaign for over two decades, but is disqualified from participation in the presidential election because of a 13-year prison sentence.
He has been convicted in 2015 on widely criticised terrorism charges.
