Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi today said the conduct of the 12th South Asian Games 2016 without any incident has amply proved that peace has returned to the state.
"For the smooth conduct of the prestigious international event, I thank the people of Assam and Meghalaya, officials of Government of Assam and Government of India, the Indian Olympic Association, different sports organisations, players and delegates, volunteers and the media," Gogoi said in a statement here.
The 12th edition of SAG, co-hosted by Assam and Meghalaya, was the most successfully staged ever in terms of participation and number of disciplines.

"The way the infrastructure has been readied for the Games in a short time shows that our Government is competent and capable to conduct any major events.
"It has also silenced the critics who had strong reservations whether Assam could host such a mega sports extravaganza," he said.
Gogoi said it was a matter of great satisfaction that the players and delegates have exuded happiness at the arrangements being made for them in terms of security, food, accommodation, transportation and other logistic support.
The Chief Minister, however, pointed out that he had received complaints from some sports organisers that the Organising Committee, 12th South Asian Games, headed by Sarbananda Sonowal did not take them into confidence while making preparations for the Games.
"If the complaints are genuine, then it is very unfortunate," he added.
